Best Practices in Caring for Your Technology

Electronic equipment needs to be routinely cleaned to maintain performance, but traditional methods and off-the-shelf products are often not the best approach. There are some technology care best practices to keep in mind as you maintain your sensitive devices.

  • Only use cleaning products approved by the manufacturer of your equipment.
  • Establish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for how you’ll maintain your technology.
  • Assign responsibility to a specific person or role and train those staff members.
  • Devices should be disinfected at the start of each shift and cleaned routinely throughout the day.
  • Provide an option for customers and staff to use a technology-safe cleaning product. Place cleaning wipes near kiosks and POS stations, for example.
  • Never spray any product directly onto a surface. Spray onto a cloth and then wipe clean.
  • Use a disposable wipe or microfiber cloth as paper towels can scratch surfaces or leave unsightly fibers behind. Use a fresh wipe or cloth for each device to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Don’t reuse general-purpose cleaning rags as they can harbor bacteria and viruses.
  • Communicate your cleaning procedures both in-store and online to provide confidence that you’re maintaining a safe environment and technology.
