A regular cleaning routine is the best way to increase both operational efficiency and the longevity of the equipment while reducing service calls. Based on the manufacturers’ recommendations and customer feedback, we encourage the following best practices for optimal results:

Card Readers

Clean once per week. Clean more frequently after periods of high usage.


Clean more frequently after periods of high use or in areas subject to grease, food particles, and grime. Failure to clean regularly can cause system failure, device downtime and customer frustration.

Dirty Device Symptoms:

  • Card rejection
  • Reader error
  • Repeated swipes

Thermal Printers

Clean with every media roll change or at least twice per month.


Clean more frequently after periods of high use.

Printers become dirty from “paper dust”, ink and adhesives as well as environmental contaminants such as airborne grease particles. Cards, wipes and pens clean the printhead and build-up on the printer's rollers.

Dirty Device Symptoms:

  • Paper jams
  • Poor print quality or print voids
  • Illegible receipts

Device Exteriors / Screens

Clean when device is noticeably dirty or at least 2-3 times per week. Clean more frequently after periods of high usage.


Clean daily in areas with exposure to grease, food particles and grime. Touch screens should be checked daily for fingerprint and grime build up. Dirty devices can cause customer perception to be that of a poorly run facility.

Dirty Device Symptoms:

  • Visible dirt and oil
  • Poor device operation
  • Cloudy or smeared screen

Electronics Interiors

Clean with every media roll change or at least twice per month.


Clean when using cleaning cards.

Hospitality devices pick up dirt easily which cause misreads, inaccuracy and operational failure if not cleaned properly.
